Manchester Tomorrow

I'm going to Manchester tomorrow.. Going to go out at the weekend on a day car trip, somewhere in Cheshire I suppose. Will be nice to see family and such, also my sister gave birth to a baby boy today - totally unrelated news, but you just can't help sharing it! And a duff note, I think my foot is still broken, but I'm too bloody minded to use a crutch anymore. A three hour wait at the minor injury unit awaits me.

Here's another bag lady outfit. Warm and cosy, and layered up - just the way I like it.

I got a bit ahead of myself, and ordered these boots, not sure about them, but they go so well with my velvet frock coat, with socks and tights. With discount, they are a cute pair of booties. But yes, I can't actually stand up in them, they hurt my broken bone too much. So its definitely not completely healed. I'm sticking with these oldies for now. 

Really need to cut my hair, does anyone know if there is anywhere reliable in London to go? I have a massive hair dresser phobia.

Morning!

This is literally me in the middle of having my cup of tea in the morning, before I brush my teeth and put my lippy on. ( I know though, that its actually midnight now, but hey! What can you do!)

My second day of no crutch wearing!

I've got this velvet and chiffon striped T-shirt on, that is in keeping with my love of all things navy. Adds a nice texture, I think, to this studio day dress by wearing double navy. You can't beat navy as a fall back colour.

So I've just started to walk without the crutch! And boy am I just feeling happier in general! Its really miserable being somewhere new and exciting, and not actually being able to DO anything, without being in pain and the constant hassle of it all.. Good news all round. I promise not be grumpy about my outfits. I was just having a moment of feeling incredibly unsure and almost feeling unfamiliar with myself. Losing mobility and experiencing daily (back) pain (from using crutches) was cruelly destabilising.

I am getting sick of having to wear these boots everyday! Can't wait until the foot is totally recovered, to be able to wear heels again.. god, in fact just some sort of other shoes.

Need to try Harder

It is getting colder, and sometimes, instead of being sensible and wearing ONE big warm coat, I start wearing three or four warm bulky layers. I've started rocking bag lady cider drinking chic - only Ashiya will know that reference probably, but you get the picture! Anyway a big wooly scarf has replaced the woollen shawls I used to wear all at once.. For me to be warm I need a little silk scarf worn close to the neck, a bigger wrap around silk scarf to cover the chest, then a wooly scarf, and/or a big blanket of a woollen shawl, my ear bags (ear muffs without a head band, they just click onto your ears) and ALWAYS a hat, I think I'd feel naked without a hat. Sometimes all of this is worn making like Miss Marple, but then sometimes its just like a big bag lady. I think I'm veering towards bag lady this winter, unfortunately. I'll embrace it!

This outfit is part bag lady, basically over sized comfy everything, with the over sized jacket, which I essentially like wearing as a big cardigan. I found it in my sister's old wardrobe, which incidentally was my old wardrobe when I was younger. I think I definitely need to try harder with my clothes.

Is this look all a bit too art student slumming it trend? I hope not..I'm not tall and slim with a top knot, so I don't think I could ever pull it off convincingly. Maybe I'm subconsciously blending in a little, its easier sometimes, but I know I'm not normally like that. Maybe its convenience, maybe its getting out the house in the morning and grinding a commute with crutches and a bad back, maybe its just because I'm in a studio all day, or maybe its because I can't be bothered.

I look like a little pumpkin here, all wrapped up. Please add crutches to visualise what I actually wore in the end!

Working Too Much

I know I've not posted lately, but even though I have been getting dressed... I've been leaving the house early and not getting back till 9pm.. So I've been pretty tired and consumed by work.. as you do. I was in late today, so here you have a post of what I wear to the studio.. Exciting huh?

I wore my hair down though. I've taken to tying up my hair, after I've washed, dried and straightened it, for about ten minutes, then undo it all, to have slightly kinky waves through it - it sort of works. My hair is too long, thick and a bit frazzled right now to wear it completely straight though.

Sunday

Its Sunday, its sunny.. Yet somehow I  haven't made it outside. My morning has consisted of doing all those little things, you forget to do in the week; like hoovering, tidying up piles of washing, and washing your hair properly -instead of the quick wash cycle you do on auto pilot during the morning rush hours. 

I've put on these brogues, as I am most likely going to go down to the Notting Hill/Kensington area to do some research work later today. Don't ask, we've been set this work to do at uni. Ashiya had kindly suggested that I head over to the West Way under pass.. So I'm planning on having a strange walk today, walking around aimlessly with out a clue where you're heading. But my feet are not feeling happy, walking around the flat in these brogues, so I reckon I'm going to have to find something else that permits walking but aren't boots that will boil my feet. No such luck, so far.

On another note, I realised that Channel 4 had been doing this documentary, Seven Days. Which follows various different ordinary peoples' lives, who happen to live and work in Notting Hill, in real time, documenting their daily goings on during the last seven days. It was certainly helpful as a secondary source, for looking at people in the area and collecting information about the place. Its been edited quite nicely...I don't particularly find myself engaged in reality TV often, but I thought this was an interesting, to say the least, documentation of real people's lives, as it didn't feel contrived, and also because they were separate people, only linked by the area in which they live and work in, you could follow the threads of narrative individually, and watch how later on, their paths would cross, because of the show.

Well it certainly helped me, as I couldn't walk around for hours around the area, drawing and taking pictures, all last week, because of the bad back, foot, and what not.. I only got the limited information from the short trips that I could make.

Too Much Black

Whenever I wear this dress I always feel like I'm wearing too much black. In the sense that wearing too much black doesn't suit me - I have a heavy dose of the colour on top of my head anyway, why would I want to wear anymore of the stuff! - and that wearing black seems to drain the colour out of me.

Bit tired, travelling to uni and back everyday this week on crutches, hasn't been fun. Looking forward to some rest this weekend. Though I'll probably end up working anyway.

Missing a Tripod

 

Bit fed up today. Covered a few miles to Millbank, then to Shoreditch and back, footing it, busing it, and taxi hopping it in the end. Hence tired body and sore hands. Just jumped on a packed train to Manchester, and was offered a lovely first class seat because of my visible need for one. Which I greatly appreciated, as while everyone else was able to run to nab a seat, I was travelling alone this time and was struggling quite badly, with the two bags I was carrying on my body whilst hobbling along with crutches, I was lagging considerably behind. So with a weary head, I'll just post this quick. 

So the angles are a bit funny, and badly positioned, because I forgot my tripod. So these pictures come courtesy of a pile of books, a cd case and an empty 35mm roll of film box. Enjoy.
